Campaign/Football Season

It’s that time of year again – campaign kick-offs are under way and football is just beginning. So, why not combine the two?

United Way of North Central Florida (Gainesville, Florida) has done just that. They invite community members to come out and “Get your gator on!” at United Downtown, a free street party on Friday nights before home football games from 6 to 10 p.m. They offer something different each Friday night, as they bring the best in local sports, food, art, and music.

On August 30th, they kicked off the Gator football season with a 5K run and celebrated their campaign kick-off with former Gator greats and the Gator mascots. On September 20th, they will be holding a contest for the most creative, spirited, and just plain fun orange and blue outfit, and on October 4th, Gator fans will paint the downtown orange and blue, and can celebrate Gainesville’s history with interactive art activities and artist meet-n-greets. On November 22nd, there will be classic cars, Harleys, and music for “Gators Ride, Rock & Roll” night.

This is a great example of how your United Way can get involved in your community, while raising awareness of your United Way. Not only is it fun, but it’s named “United Downtown,” so people will remember who hosts these fun events! Consider offering something similar in your community, to spread awareness of your United Way and interact with your community members.

Happy Campaigning!
